SAN MARCOS — The elves are dusting off their hats, candy canes are being wrapped and the Jolly Ole’ Man has sent his red suit to the cleaners. All of these preparations are for the city of San Marcos annual Santa’s Magical Village scheduled to take place at the San Marcos Civic Center from 3 to 8 p.m. Dec. 6, and from 9 to 3:30 p.m. Dec. 7.
The child-size magical village will offer free activities for children including creating ornaments, decorating holiday cookies, making candles and more. Entertainment including face painters, elves, dancers and holiday carolers will be featured throughout the event.
Don’t miss the spectacular lighting of the holiday trees at 6:45 p.m. Dec. 6 when Santa himself climbs to the top of the tree to turn on the thousands of twinkling lights. The holiday cheer will begin at 5 p.m. as singers and dancers perform in anticipation of the tree lighting that will take place outside of City Hall.
The San Marcos Kiwanis Club Holiday Street Parade, “Winter Carnival” will begin at 1 p.m. Dec. 7. The parade will feature bands, equestrians, floats, marching units, car clubs, clowns and Santa. The Holiday Parade starts at Palomar College and travels east on Mission Road, turning right onto San Marcos Blvd., ending at the San Marcos Civic Center.
