Volunteers needed to change lives

Make a difference at Solution for Change

VISTA — Solutions for Change’s day-to-day operations rely on volunteers, working to help transform the lives of the families it serves. There are multiple areas that require volunteer help and anyone interested can contact Emily Fauber at [email protected]
Areas that always need extra hands include:
— Preparing and Serving Dinner (any age)
Every night of the year, a volunteer group prepares and serves dinner to the newest residents, in the Intake and Access Center. This is a great opportunity for families (including children) and small groups to interact with our new residents and experience first-hand, the impact serving others has for the 20 to 50 residents (half are children) living here.
— Kid Zone Helpers (ages 16+)
Do you like to work with children? Every Monday and Thursday evening and Saturday morning, volunteers provide childcare for our residents’ children, so that they can participate in mandatory programming meetings or recovery meetings. Volunteers must be 18 or older, or 16 and older if accompanied by a parent or adult advisor. *Kid Zone volunteers are required to complete an application, short orientation, and background check.
Quarterly Graduation Childcare (Ages 14+)
Did you know that 93% of Solutions’ graduates have not returned to homelessness? The next graduation will be in September. For every resident to attend graduation, childcare volunteers with children ages 1to 12 are needed.
— GED Tutoring
Residents work to complete their GED test. Every Thursday, these residents attend GED tutoring from 10 a.m. to noon, to work one-on-one with residents as they practice reading, writing, and math skills.
— Solutions Farm (ages 16+)
Consider an opportunity to help at the Farm and get your hands dirty. Solutions Farms is creating a volunteer auxiliary to learn about aquaponics, support our workforce, and hang out with some amazing people.
— Volunteer Office Assistant
Office Assistant volunteer opportunities are in the Volunteer and Community Outreach Team Office and the Development Office. Volunteer and Community Outreach is looking for assistance with data entry and administrative tasks. The development team is looking for assistance researching potential new community partners, donors, and foundations, as well as some administrative support. The time commitment is flexible, weekdays during business hours.
— Host A Fundraiser or Donation Drive
Hosting a fundraiser or Donation Drive is a fun way to make a big difference for Solutions for Change families, with anything from craft fairs, bake sales, car washes to pledge-a-thons. Donation Drives can bring in much needed supplies for our families, such as bed sheets, cleaning supplies, baby needs or everyday personal items.
