VISTA — Several people were arrested March 5 during a county decoy aimed at curbing the purchase of alcohol for minors.
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Vista Station, Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving Unit and agents from the state’s Alcohol Beverage and Control conducted an operation called Shoulder Tap, which resulted in the arrest of six adults.
The sting was performed in the evening hours, in various locations, and entailed a minor asking an adult to purchase alcohol for them, according to the sheriff’s department.
Of the 38 adults who were contacted during the operation, six were arrested and cited and released.
According to Deputy J. Boyce, one person was also arrested and booked into the Vista jail for being drunk in public.
The penalty for a person who furnishes alcohol to a minor is a minimum $1,000 fine and 24 hours of community service, according to the state.
In addition, the state’s enforcement and violations fact sheet says “If a person buys alcohol and furnishes it to a minor who consumes it and causes great bodily injury or death to himself or others, the furnisher faces a minimum six to 12 months in county jail and a $1,000 fine.”
