Transients arrested for attempted murder

CARLSBAD — Two transients were arrested Tuesday for attempted murder after a dispute resulted in another transient being beaten and doused with gasoline, according to the Carlsbad Police Department.

Hakim Nadear Hudson, 36, and Mario Lucas Pinto, 66, were booked into the Vista Detention Facility after Oceanside police arrested the pair on the 3200 block of Production Avenue.

According to the CPD press release, authorities received a call at 6:43 a.m. for a welfare check of a man injured on the 2400 block of Carlsbad Boulevard between State Street and Mountain View Drive.

Officers found the 49-year-old man on the 2500 block of State Street.

The victim reported he got into an argument with two Hudson and Pinto. In an effort to extort information out of the victim, also a transient, the two men bound the victim, assaulted and threatened him and doused him with gasoline.

The victim gave the suspects information so they would leave. The Carlsbad Fire Department transported him to the Tri-City Medical Center to be treated for his injuries. The extent of his injuries was not immediately known.

Officers investigating the incident began a two-city search for the outstanding suspects. The suspects were described as a Hispanic male approximately 65 years old and a black male possibly 30 years old.

At approximately 10:45 a.m., with the assistance of the Oceanside Police Department, the suspects were found and arrested.

Hudson and Pinto were arrested on charges of attempted murder, threats of violence, assault with a weapon and assault with great bodily injury.

The investigation is ongoing.
