Toyota crashes into back of popular Mexican eatery

ENCINITAS — A Toyota Avalon driven by a woman, approximately 40 years old, crashed into the back wall
of Juanita’s Taco Shop on April 6.
Richardo Gonzalez, restaurant manager, said the driver told him that her car would not stop.
“It accelerated instead of stopped,” Gonzalez said, relating the description the driver gave him when she walked into the restaurant to report the accident.
Restaurant workers said they felt the thud when the car hit the building right below the kitchen, but continued to prepare fish tacos and flying saucers.
“We never stopped working,” Gonzalez said.
The accident left a gaping 3-foot-by-6-foot hole in the lower outside wall that leads to the basement.
No estimate of the costs of damages has been made.
