CARLSBAD — Carlsbad Police responded to a 911 call of a residential burglary in progress at 9:10 a.m. Dec. 13.
A Hispanic male juvenile was seen at the rear of a residence in the 1100 block of Abelia Avenue, attempting to break into the house. A witness observed this activity and called police. The suspect fled the scene. The witness gave police the description of the suspect and his direction of travel.
Officers set up a loose perimeter and began checking the area where the suspect was seen running from. The shirt that the suspect was wearing was discarded and officers located it. The Sheriff’s Department helicopter ASTREA was called to assist in the search.
At about 9:30 a.m., officers located a suspect who matched the description several blocks from the victim’s location. He was detained and positively identified by the witnesses. He was arrested, transported and booked into Juvenile Hall for attempted residential burglary. The investigation is continuing.
