Surf Museum honors women surfers

OCEANSIDE — The California Surf Museum will host is annual gala and fundraiser, a Celebration of Women on Waves, at 5 p.m. June 5, at 312 Pier View Way.
Featured guests include top professional female surfers Lisa Andersen, Kim Mearig, Linda Benson, Jennifer Smith and Debbie Beacham as well as pioneer female surfer Jericho Poppler, one of the founding members of the Surfrider Foundation.
The event celebrates the museum’s new exhibit, “WOW: Women on Waves,” which highlights the origins of women’s surfing from Captain Cook’s discovery of the Hawaiian Islands to our current professional champions and enthusiasts.
The event will offer food from several North County restaurants, including Pedro’s Tacos, Harney Sushi, 333 Pacific, Mary’s Lumpia, Petite Madeline Bakery and Nagata Farms, plus live music and entertainment will be held throughout the night, with silent and live auctions, with items like a seven-day Las Olas surf safari in Mexico or an Ashley Lloyd longboard.
Tickets cost $65 for museum members, $80 for nonmembers and can be purchased by calling (760) 721-6876 or visiting www.surfmuseum.org. Visitors to the museum can also purchase tickets on site.
The California Surf Museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with extended hours Thursdays to 8 p.m.
