Surf museum celebrates ocean-going icon

OCEANSIDE — In October, the California Surf Museum plans to party for the birthday of a Southern California icon.On Oct. 20, the museum, at 312 Pier View Way, is the site of a birthday party for legendary surf pioneer Hobie Alter and a grand opening of “Hobie: Shaping a Culture,” a major retrospective exhibit on all things Hobie.

The exhibit and the party will be a celebration of Alter’s myriad achievements as a seminal Renaissance Man in the surf culture. Join with the Hobie family and Alter himself for a rare public appearance. This event is also a fundraiser for the California Surf Museum.

Hobie Surfboards is putting together a collection of unique, one-of-a-kind surfboards representing Hobie’s rich history. These surfboards will be auctioned at this event only.

Tickets are $50 for CSM members and $75 for non-members at Dinner, entertainment, beverages and birthday cake are included. For an invitation, call (760) 721-6876 or come by the museum.

The museum is open daily 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with extended hours on Thursday to 8 p.m. Admission is $5 general, $3 student/military/senior, children 12 and under free plus free admission for all on Tuesdays.
