Student artists sought

COAST CITIES — The California Coastal Commission invites all California students in kindergarten through 12th grade to enter the 2009 California Coastal Art and Poetry contest. Art and poetry must have a California coastal or marine theme to be eligible.
Winners will be selected in each of four grade-level categories — kindergarten through third, fourth through sixth, seventh through ninth, and 10th through 12th — in both art and poetry to receive a $100 gift certificate to an art supply or book store. Each winner’s teacher will receive a $40 gift certificate for educational materials. Prizes made possible in part by donations from Blick Art Materials and Aquarium of the Pacific. All entries must be postmarked by Jan. 31.
By encouraging youth to reflect on the beauty and spirit of California’s beaches and ocean, The California coastal Commission hopes to inspire a greater sense of stewardship for these natural places.
