CARLSBAD — The California State Parks has invited area residents and those camping at the South Carlsbad State Campground to the second annual Christmas in July event from noon to 4 p.m. July 17 at the South Carlsbad State Campground Campfire Center. This event is free and is intended to raise community awareness of poor environmental sustainability habits and establish a sense of community to promote stewardship of our parks.
Come enjoy some sunshine, surf and Santa while learning about the parks and what you can do to help preserve them. Featured activities include a beach cleanup, educational booths, music by DJ Dave, crafts, and some interpretation presentations. Also, SurfRide Board Shops will be providing free surf lessons for children ages 6 to 16. Santa Claus himself will be “camping” out for pictures with the youngsters.
There will be an opportunity drawing and silent auction to help raise money for the state parks. Tickets for the opportunity drawing are $5. You can purchase these opportunity drawing tickets from any state camp host at either South Carlsbad or San Elijo campgrounds. Prizes include one week of oceanfront camping at South Carlsbad, gift certificates to local restaurants, and more.
This event is sponsored by the California State Parks with support from the Friends of Cardiff and Carlsbad State Beaches. If you are interested in hosting a booth at the event, contact Laura Ohman at [email protected]. To make a donation to the raffle or silent auction, contact Niki Burgan at [email protected].
