RANCHO SANTA FE — Ghosts, goblins, and creatures from outer space — and even their scary parents — converged upon Paseo Delicias on Oct. 31 in one of the eeriest parades in recent memory. Students at the R. Roger Rowe School were dismissed from classes early on Friday then changed into their Halloween costumes before parading through the village.
Parents were encouraged to participate in the parade, too, and it was a terrifying sight to behold. OK, perhaps not all were terrifying. There were a few delightful costumes as well, such as princesses, kittens and a few bee students (As in bumble bees, not B average students!)
Later that afternoon, the Rancho Santa Fe Foundation sponsored its annual Halloween Carnival in the upper field behind the school, which proved to be more fun than frightening. Seventh- and eighth-graders were treated to something a little more sophisticated: a Spook-tacular Dance. And, yes, some of the dancing was indeed scary.
Meanwhile, students at Horizon Prep were treated to a Halloween alternative event, Harvest Festival. The annual event was held on the campus lawns behind the Horizon Christian Fellowship. This year there were hot-air balloon rides (tethered to the ground!), mega-slides, a jump house, a bungee run, a cakewalk and lots of food. A prize was given for the best Bible character costume. Students had a grand time and parents and grandparents seemed to have a festive time as well.
Whether it was Halloween or Harvest Festival, it was a fun Friday to remember … cobwebs and all.
