Songs, stories and s’mores highlight annual sleepover

SOLANA BEACH — As families pitched their tents for the fourth annual Solana Beach Family Camp Out, many brought along an additional piece of gear to make the event a bit more comfortable this year — the air mattress.
“There were a lot of luxury suites out there,” Kirk Wenger from the city’s Parks and Recreation Department
The event, held July 23 and July 24 at La Colonia Park, featured campfire songs, stories, s’mores, a spaghetti dinner served by Boy Scout Troop 782 and a pancake breakfast provided by the Solana Beach Fire Department.
The cost was $25 for one of 40 available spaces.
Wenger said about 35 families participated, many of them for the second or third time.
“There’s was lots of positive feedback,” he said. “We need them to get out and spread the word since there’s a lot of room on the field.”
