Solana Beach Councilman Dave Roberts to challenge Brian Bilbray for 50th District Congressional seat

SOLANA BEACH — Former Solana Beach Mayor and current Councilman Dave Roberts announced Sept. 3 that he is running for Congress.
“I’m running for Congress because we need a representative who is focused on the needs of all people here in San Diego County and is ready to fight for them every single day,” said Roberts. “As a local elected official, and throughout my career in the Air Force and the private sector, I have worked with Republicans and Democrats. I’m not a partisan politician; I’m a proven consensus builder, committed to bringing people together to find common sense solutions. In Washington, that’s exactly what I’ll do.”
Since 2004, Roberts has served on the Solana Beach City Council, including a term as mayor. Through his service as mayor and on City Council, as well as his active participation in several regional planning agencies and civic organizations, Roberts said he understands how to forge common sense agreements with people of all political beliefs.
“The people in San Diego County deserve a new generation of leader who offers fresh ideas, leadership and enthusiasm,” Roberts said. “Whether it’s strengthening our economy and creating thousands of new, green jobs, making sure a college education is within reach, or making sure health care is affordable and accessible, I’m committed to finding solutions that make sense and are fiscally responsible.”
While serving on the Solana Beach City Council, Roberts continues to work as a health policy official for an international nonprofit association. Prior to that, Roberts was an executive at a Fortune 500 company before founding and running a successful employee-owned business.
Earlier in his career, Roberts served the Air Force both at the Pentagon and at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany. Using the experience he gained working for the Department of Defense, Roberts worked in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he helped create the Defense Department’s TRICARE health care program for active duty military, their beneficiaries, and retirees.
Roberts lives in Solana Beach with his spouse and three children.
