School fundraiser exceeds expectations

RANCHO SANTA FE — Horizon Prep presented “An Evening by the Boardwalk,” on March 20, a fundraiser that truly captured the carnival atmosphere.
Approximately 160 guests enjoyed a dining hall that was truly spectacular and a feast prepared by Jeffrey Strauss, chef at the Pamplemousse Grille in Del Mar.
Bill Menish, former NBC news anchor, served as auctioneer for the live auction that was held after the dinner.
“It was a wonderful evening,” Sara Hobbs, PTF fundraiser coordinator, said. “Of course it’s too early to have any final numbers, but it looks as though we’ve exceeded our expectations.”
The opportunity drawing for a Maui Marriage Retreat was won by Brad and Sharon Remy, whose daughter is in the second grade.
When it was announced that the couple won a retreat at the Grand Wailea Resort and Spa, Sharon shouted, “I can’t believe it. We were married there! At that very hotel!”
The couple will be celebrating their 12th anniversary this May.
The live auction bidding was also fierce for four tickets to an upcoming Jonas Brothers Concert.
The mother that won the tickets said, “My girls will be ecstatic. One of them will even be celebrating a birthday the next day.”
The fundraiser is an annual event and the proceeds help underwrite the private school, Horizon Prep.
“Tuition alone doesn’t cover all the expenses of the school,” Assistant Pastor Ray Ramage said. “So this fundraiser helps underwrite the school programs. Thanks to the generosity of the community, we’re able to keep it going.”
According to Hobbs, the carnival atmosphere couldn’t have been accomplish had it not been for the volunteers. “The event looked as if we had hired it done when, in fact, the volunteers made it with their own hands, or donated it free or charge.”
