ENCINITAS—The Encinitas Rotary Club honored Edward M. Stringer as Encinitas Rotarian of the Year at a recent award ceremony. Stringer, who has been a Rotarian for 44 years, was honored with his family and guests in attendance.
Stringer ran his own company, Stringer Electric, until his retirement in 1985. The following year, he transferred his membership from the La Jolla Rotary Club and became a dedicated and active Rotarian in Encinitas. Serving as Sergeant-at-Arms, he has been able to collect “fines,” which are voluntary donations, with his trademark subtle humor. Never missing a meeting and showing enthusiasm and support for the many Rotary projects, Stringer has been a longtime asset to both the club and the community that has benefited from his many years of valuable service.
Fellow Rotarians Bill Berrier, Pete Fitzpatrick, John Read, Evelyn Weidner and Verne Scholl took turns “roasting” Stringer, exchanging quips and telling stories of his escapades as a father, a volunteer and a friend. In the end, members expressed their more serious congratulations to a man whom they all considered richly deserving of the title Rotarian of the Year.
