Rookie defensive end Cory Liuget said he didn’t feel like a pro yet, but that he does feel like he belongs in the pros. It’s all about working hard until he gets as good as the guys that are at the top of his position right now, he said.
With his very first practice with the Chargers taking place just a couple of weeks ago, the 21-year-old Liuget has learned that the one thing he needs to be in practice is consistent. “(You’ve) got to come out and practice every day and play like a pro,” he said.
The second and most valuable thing he’s learned from his teammates is that no one’s perfect, he said. Players and coaches have told him to just come out and play football, something that he’s always been doing so just come out and play and let it come natural.
Veteran players have taken Liuget under their wings.
“The whole D-line, the whole defense pretty much as far as the front seven and everyone from Jacques (Cesaire) to Luis (Castillo) to Vaughn (Martin) and Takeo Spikes; a bunch of guys helping me get through this learning curve and get through this rookie camp,” Liuget said.
Working with new defensive coordinator Greg Manusky, Liuget said you always have to be on your toes. “You have to do things right; you have to, for the most part, just be very solid in your technique…and just come ready to play and practice.”
The 6 foot 2 inches, 300 pound lineman’s goal this season is just to win — just to help the team, he said.
