CARLSBAD — On Oct. 20, at approximately 9:16 a.m., Carlsbad Police received a robbery alarm activation from Mulloy’s Jewelers, located at 2978 State St. Upon arrival, it was determined that the unknown suspect(s) had entered the business through a hole cut into the roof sometime during the evening. Once inside, a suspect hid in the restroom until the employees opened the store, then exited, confronted one of them with a handgun, directing them to the floor and took merchandise from the safe, which was already opened. Confronted by another employee, the suspect ordered that person to the floor and then fled back into the bathroom area and exited through the roof, carrying merchandise. Officers searched the area, with the assistance of a San Diego Sheriff ASTREA helicopter,with negative results. Employees told officers that they had observed only one suspect in the business. The investigation is continuing to determine if more than one suspect was involved. A partial description of the fleeing suspect was a Hispanic adult, unknown age, 5 feet 09 inches tall to 5 feet 11 inches tall, wearing dark blue pants, a dark blue windbreaker and a paintball type plastic mask.
