Registration opens for youth cross-country race

OCEANSIDE — The city of Oceanside Parks & Recreation will be sponsoring a Youth Cross Country Meet Nov. 21. Youngsters will have an opportunity to compete on this gentle and fast cross-country course at Melba Bishop Park. Ages will be separated. All runners will receive awards and the top three male and female finishers in all races receive medals. Pre-registration is required. Register on-line at www.ci.oceanside.ca.us, Activity No. 7012.301, through Nov. 16. There will be no day of race registration.
The divisions will include:
— Bantam Division Runners: seven- and eight-year-old boys and girls combined for 1,000 meters, and the race starts at 9:30 a.m.
— Midget Division Runners: nine- and 10-year-old boys and girls combined for 1,500 meters and the race starts at 9:45 a.m.
— Youth Division Runners: 11- and 12-year-old boys and girls combined for 2,000 meters, and the race starts at 10:10 a.m.
Check-in time for all runners is 9 a.m. All race start times are approximate and subject to change. Race planners ask that runners arrive on time, allowing for check-in, course walk-through, stretching and warm-up time. They also ask that children wear athletic running shoes, shorts and a T-shirt. Participant fees are $10 for Oceanside residents and $15 for non-residents. Call the Beach Recreation Center for more information at (760) 435-5233.
