CAMP PENDLETON— Paul Gallegos, an architect with Alpha Studio Design Group, presented a check for $1,000 to Camp Pendleton’s Santa Margarita Elementary School Principal, Pat Kurtz, during the school’s rededication ceremony, Sept. 21.
The ceremony, which was scheduled for two weeks ago but was cancelled due to the power outage that hit the region that day, allotted the opportunity for the schools’ board members, base representatives, students and the mayor to come together in recognition of the reconstruction.
“There is no better way to assist our Marines than to provide a good education and school for their children,” said Larry Perondi, the district superintendent.
More than 800 students now occupy the more than $15 million reconstructed campus which now has four separate structures including administrative, multipurpose, library and kindergarten buildings
“We are so happy to have such a wonderful school on base for the children of Camp Pendleton with one of the best teaching staffs I have ever seen,” said Col. Nicholas Marano, commanding officer, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.
