A fundraising event will be hosted by Sal Masekela at 7 p.m. May 10 at the Belly Up Tavern to raise rebuilding expenses for the original Calypso Restaurant on Coast Highway 101 in Leucadia, transforming back to it’s original form during May.
In addition to an auction and raffle, there will be live performances by Candy Kane, Eve Selis & Cactus Twang, Shoreline Roots and Guest. Tickets are $20 at the door and 100 percent of the proceeds will go toward the rebuild of the Calypso restaurant. From left, Brent Miller, contractor with Inspired Concepts, Gilles Knafo, founder/owner of Calypso since 1995 and Nick Bowman, general contractor with Nick Bowman Construction, gather in front of the future rebuild of Calypso at the restaurant’s original location at the corner of Basil Street and Coast Highway 101 in Leucadia. The sign shown is the original that hung on the palm tree in front of the first restaurant. The new restaurant, set to open in late June, will be rebuilt exactly like the original including the same artwork and live music every night. Courtesy photo
