RANCHO SANTA FE — Overlooking The Crosby, a new residential community crafted by Davidson Communities, co-hosted their Thrive Animal Rescue Shelter Dog Adoption Day. On Oct. 25, dog lovers gathered for this special event in support to find animals forever homes.
A total of six shelter dogs were placed into loving homes.
In addition to giving animals a second chance, this was the first adoption partnership between the two entities.
According to Jan Percival, spokesperson for Davidson Communities, the Davidson blog lit up social media when many read the following: Bill Davidson was looking for a way to connect with a dog rescue organization. Having watched as his daughter Nicole, a Thrive volunteer, placed one foster dog after another into forever homes, he took notice.
“This is where we knew we could help. By using our social media channels and connecting with past and present homeowners, we are able to network on behalf of these former shelter dogs,” said Davidson in the blog. He continued, “By creating public awareness that the shelters are filled with great dogs who’ve been abandoned for reasons having nothing to do with health or behavioral issues, we can help change the way people look for a new family dog.”
Percival said while this was the first official dog adoption event they were involved in, they looked forward to future ones in San Diego County, and also in San Juan Capistrano, where Davidson Communities is currently building The Oaks Farms.
Animal rescue is a collaborative effort. Hosting a dog adoption event such as this helped fill that gap.
“Davidson has the unique ability to tap into a large network of past and present homeowners to help find foster families for this highly adoptable shelter dogs,” Percival said. She added, “We have lots of homeowners who are good prospects to become foster parents for Thrive Animal Rescue. And we have a strong social media network to help spread the word about the need for fosters and adoptions.”
Percival also added that Davidson created foster care packages for people willing to bring a Thrive dog into their home. Items included a collar and leash, blanket, food and water bowls in addition to a supply of food and treats to get them started.
“We look forward to a meaningful and ongoing partnership,” she said.
