ENCINITAS — If you’re a surfer with gnarly aerial moves, then professional surfer Josh Kerr wants to see them next week.
Kerr, a two-time world champion aerial surfer and the only surfer competing in both the Big Wave and World Surfing League competitions, is headed to Ponto and Seaside surf breaks in Encinitas Sept. 19 and Sept. 20 to host an aerial surf trick competition.
In addition to getting to surf with Kerr, contestants will have a shot at a $1,000 purse, courtesy of Kerr’s sponsor, Mountain Dew.
Kerr, according to a news release, will be taking to his RV following the Hurley Pro event in Trestles to promote the so-called “pop-up” aerial surf competition.
The competitions will take from 2 to 6 p.m., and will be at Ponto Beach Sept. 19 and Seaside Beach Sept. 20.
Kerr, according to the news release, is one of the top aerial surfers, a subset of the surfing culture that has gained momentum in recent years.
There will also be a barbecue after each event.
