NORTH COUNTY — The Poway Center for the Performing Arts Foundation recently announced a new program that will allow patrons to take up to $15 off regularly priced tickets for all shows remaining in its 2008/2009 Professional Performance Series in exchange for contributions to a North County food bank. Since Feb. 11, the POW! Foundation has offered a discount of $3 per canned good off regularly priced adult tickets up to a maximum of $15 per ticket. Tickets that normally sell for $45 will be available for $30, and $39 tickets can be purchased for only $24.
Food donations will be given to Interfaith Community Services, a not-for-profit, nondenominational social service agency based in Escondido. Interfaith Community Services provides tools and resources to people in need. ICS has been helping people help themselves for more than 25 years. They provide assistance to children, youth, families, veterans, adults, seniors, the disabled and the mentally ill with comprehensive services including emergency food, employment and vocational resources, shelter and housing programs, drug and alcohol recovery, occupational health and counseling.
“We’re tremendously proud to be working with Interfaith Community Services on what we consider to be the ultimate ‘win-win’ program,” POW! Foundation Associate Director Michael Rennie said. “Our patrons get discounted tickets and the opportunity to assist their neighbors in trying times.”
Foundation officials conceived the plan in December at the height of the holiday season.
“Like many businesses, we were watching the economy carefully and had reason to suspect that people might be looking for a bargain — and soon,” POW! Foundation board member and marketing committee chair Robert Weinberg said. “We at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts Foundation are in a position to help theater patrons stretch their entertainment dollars and aid those most in need.”
Discounted tickets will be available only at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts Box Office, at 15498 Espola Road in Poway, during regular box office hours. Call the box office at (858) 748-0505 for details.
