Pioneers Club celebrates friends and differences

SOLANA BEACH — “Holiday Colors,” a story about friends and differences, highlighted the 2010 Pioneers Club winter festival Dec. 10 at Skyline Elementary School.
In addition to the play, written by opera singer and former model Rita Sweeting, the event featured Christmas carols by Pioneers Club members accompanied by Gary Kobayashi on guitar, performances by the hand-bell choir under the direction of Sun Choi and a raffle that included original paintings by Pioneers members, candles, a Padres clock and jewelry.
The Pioneers Club is part of Project Turnaround, a nonprofit group founded in 1984 to research and develop social and cultural programs and events for young adults with behavioral and social challenges.
The Solana Beach-based organization is dedicated to providing opportunities to help participants turn their lives around and become effective, contributing members of society. Visit www.project-turnaround.org for more information or to join, volunteer or donate.
