OCEANSIDE — Oceanside Police officers responded to Jefferson Middle School the morning of Dec. 14 to reports from a student that she believed she had seen a handgun in a female student’s backpack.
Once officers arrived at the school, it was determined that the allegation was in fact that the student overheard two females’ students in a restroom speaking about a gun. No weapon was ever seen. Officers had checked several classrooms during the initial investigation, and turned up no handgun.
It was determined that the safest course of action to take was to search all classrooms and students for the safety of all children and staff on the campus.
During the incident, the entire campus was placed on lockdown. A thorough search of the middle school proved negative, and no handgun was found.
