Patrons have chance to see art created live

OCEANSIDE — Oceanside Museum of Art is pleased to present its newest innovative night event, Artists@Work. On the second Thursday of most months OMA will showcase a different artist or artist collaborative by commissioning them to produce an original artwork live in front of guests during the newly extended hours.

On Feb. 9 Artists@Work presents Benjamin Lavender who will create mixed media metal and wood sculptures live at the museum. Interested in creating art that reflects his lifelong fascination with the growth and erosion of nature, Lavender’s signature style involves shaping metal and industrial objects into organic forms reminiscent of plant life.

This is a rare opportunity for members and visitors to closely engage with artists and get a first-hand look at the creative process. Each artist will discuss his/her process and techniques, followed by a question and answer session to close the evening. While watching artworks come to life, guests will delight in delicious appetizers sponsored by Harney Sushi and an open bar with wine and beer sponsored by Lagunitas.

Tickets are $20 or $15 for OMA members and can be purchased by calling (760) 435-3721. Reservations suggested. Open to all ages.

For more information call (760) 435.3720 or visit oma-online.org. The museum is at 704 Pier View Way.
