SAN MARCOS — Palomar Performing Arts will present seven performances of Rebecca Gilman’s “Boy Gets Girl” Feb. 27 through March 8 in the Howard Brubeck Theatre on the San Marcos campus. Dana Case will direct the play.
Equal parts fun and fright, Gilman’s play characterizes an awkward, humorous blind date that spawns a tenuous relationship between 30-something office worker Theresa Bedell and Tony, an affable nerd whose persistence wins an angry rejection. With humor gradually giving way to the gravitational pull of fear, the play becomes an examination of stalking, sexism and the nature of romantic pursuit.
According to American Theatre, Gilman’s play, written in 2000, “ … is as creepy as it is well-made, by turns funny and frightening and dramatic, and it makes for a suspenseful, thought-provoking evening of theater.”
Tickets for “Boy Gets Girl” are $12 general, $10 seniors/staff and $8 students. Advance purchases can be made online at www.palomarperforms.com, or by calling the box office at (760) 744-1150, ext. 2453. Discount tickets can be obtained through the First Thursday promotion on March 5.
