Officials notify community of high-risk sex offender in Carlsbad

Carlsbad — The City of Carlsbad Police Department with the San Diego Police Department and the Department of Justice’s Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement Task Force is circulating information on the presence of a high-risk sex offender in the Carlsbad area.  On Feb. 2 the task force went door to door alerting over 400 residents to the presence of the offender.

Fifty-year-old Jimmy Carty, a white male, 5 feet 9 inches, weighing 200 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes primarily lives in San Diego but is living part-time in Carlsbad at 541 Halsing Court.  Carty is considered a “high-risk” offender based on his past criminal history.

“Carty was convicted of multiple counts of child molestation, including oral copulation, sodomy and fondling. Carty’s victims were male children between the ages of five and fourteen,” Carlsbad Police Investigation Lieutenant Kelly Cain.

Carty is not currently wanted by law enforcement nor is he on probation or parole, Carty added.

Carty is subject to sex offender registration as mandated by Megan’s Law enacted in 1996.  The purpose of this release is to inform the public of the presence of a high-risk offender living in the community.

The information is provided for citizen safety in accordance with California Penal Code Section 290 and the San Diego Regional Sex Offender Management Committee protocol.
