Carlsbad has been talking for years about smart growth. But how smart is it to build a big box home improvement store at Palomar Airport Road and El Camino Real? Palomar Airport Road is a major employment center for North County. It is the kind of area where alternative transportation could really help reduce traffic congestion. Instead of a smart growth, mixed-use project with high paying jobs the city seems to be moving toward just the opposite. Every city loves the sales tax revenue from big box. But how far is Carlsbad willing to go to degrade the character of our city for a few bucks?
