New police captain wants to hear from community

CARMEL VALLEY — Northwestern Division San Diego Police Capt. Kathy Healey has retired, being replaced by Capt. Miguel Rosario.
In an effort to determine what resident priorities are in the Northwestern Division areas of crime or disorder, Rosario is asking for community feedback. The Northwestern Division will be looking for input at a community forum to be held sometime before the end of November.
According to Northwestern Division Community Relations Officer Gaylon Sells, the new captain believes strongly that the only way crime and disorder can be adequately addressed is if the community and the police work together in a partnership and that part of that partnership is to find out what the major community concerns are.
In prior community meetings, surveys have been taken and the top six priorities mentioned were:
— Commercial burglaries
— Traffic enforcement
— Narcotic enforcement
— Juvenile issues
— Residential burglaries
— Vehicle burglaries
The Northwestern Division, 12592 El Camino Real, serves the neighborhoods of Del Mar Heights, Carmel Valley, Sorrento Valley, Torrey Preserve, North City, Torrey Highlands and Black Mountain Ranch. Northwestern Division serves a population of 58,426 and encompasses an area of 41.51 square miles.
Sells can be reached at (858) 523-7031.
