New center proposed for La Costa

CARLSBAD — A new shopping center, proposed for the northeast corner of La Costa Avenue and Rancho Santa Fe Road, is under review.
Plans for La Costa Town Center were first submitted to the city in 2003, and call for 284,000 square feet of retail space, with an anchor store.
In addition, two office buildings, totaling 55,000 square-feet of office space, are also proposed. At one time a movie complex was in the plans, but has since been eliminated.
Sixty-four single-family homes and a condominium complex are also proposed for the site.
An environmental review is under way, with state and federal agencies scheduled to review the property during the week of May 18. Public comments are also welcome.
Once the comment period ends, the city will work on the plans to take to the City Council for final approval.
