Mock combine lets locals test their skills

ENCINITAS — Come test your 40 and vertical jump skills while talking with some of college football’s brightest stars from the 2008 season.
A free Mock Combine for local area athletes is set from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 7 for athletes ages 8 to 18. The combine is a football event where potential draft choices show their skills to scouts. Velocity Sports Performance, at 6070 Avenida Encinas in Carlsbad, offers locals the chance to test their speed and agility and mingle with NFL hopefuls a week before they leave for the combine.
The local day will give participants a chance to meet the pros training at Velocity Sports Performance for the NFL Combine. Athletes expected to be on hand include Javon Ringer of Michigan State, Marlon Lucky with Nebraska, Ian Johnson from Boise State, Chris Ogbonnaya from Texas, Darrell Mack of Utah, Derek Kinder of Pittsburgh, Hunter Cantwell from Louisville, Tyler Lorenzen from the University of Connecticut, Chase Clement with Rice, Daniel Sanders from Colorado, TreDale Tolver from Cal Poly, Solomon Elimimian from Hawaii and Lance Louis, Corey Boudreaux and TJ McKay, all from San Diego State.
Trainers Doug Hix, Todd Williams and Ryan Flaherty will also be in attendance to run the combine drills along with Velocity coaches.
Parents must attend and sign a medical release for all athletes under age 18 who wish to participate. Players will sign autographs and take photos with participants.
