Mission readies under-the-stars fundraiser

OCEANSIDE — The historic Old Mission San Luis Rey is putting the final touches on plans for its 29th annual Heritage Ball.Friends, family and supporters of the historic landmark will gather for a night of dinner, dancing and fundraising under the stars at 6 p.m. Aug. 25 at the mission, 4050 Mission Ave.

With Executive Director Father David Gaa, event chair and local community volunteer Gigi Gleason, and auction chairman Robbie Hass at the helm, the ball will serve food from Hunter Steakhouse and the chefs of Old Mission Luis Rey, that include hors d’oeuvres and a three-course dinner.

One of the highlights of this gala is the addition of an opportunity drawing in which both guests and the public will have the chance to enter to win a Holland American Line Cruise at only $50 per ticket. In addition there will be live auction items. To beautify and renew the adjacent courtyard to the church, a paddle-raiser auction will be held to not only restore Peyri Court to its original glory, but to also make it safer for all of the visiting school children while maintaining its historical integrity.

All proceeds of the Heritage Ball will benefit the restoration and renovation of Old Mission San Luis Rey.
