Miss Vista participants sought

VISTA — Registration for the 52nd annual Miss Vista Scholarship Pageant and the seventh annual Miss Teen Vista Scholarship Pageant is currently under way. Contestants or their parent must live or work in the Vista area or Vista School District or attend a Vista school, be single, never had a child, and be between the ages of 13 and 16 by April 18 for the Teen Vista pageant and the ages of 17 and 26 by April 18 for the Miss Vista Pageant. An orientation meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. Jan. 31 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, at 1310 Foothill Drive in Vista. Parents are encouraged to attend.
Miss Vista 2009 will receive a minimum $2,000 cash scholarship. Miss Teen Vista will receive a minimum $1,000 cash scholarship. More than $4,500 in scholarships was given out at the 2008 pageant. Both queens receive a wide variety of prizes. Past prizes have included all expense paid trips to Catalina, a backyard spa, two tickets to anywhere Alaska airlines flies, John Shakarian, Jeweler’s donation of a diamond crown ring and crown pendant, and dozens of dinners for two from local restaurants.
The pageant does not include swimsuit or talent segments. The pageant showcases outstanding women who are tops scholastically and socially. Judging criteria emphasizes accomplishments, community skills, self-perception and self-projection. Miss Vista 2009 and Miss Teen Vista 2009 will serve as hostesses for various community events.
