OCEANSIDE — A Marine accused of multiple sexual attacks on female joggers in North County was arraigned Oct. 16 in a Vista Superior Court.
Judge Marshall Hockett set bail at $170,000 for Adam Bartley Lablance, 23, who is charged with a single felony count of attempted sexual battery, eight misdemeanor counts of sexual battery and two misdemeanor counts of annoying a child under the age of 18.
Lablance was taken into custody Oct. 14 after Oceanside police stopped him because the car he was driving matched the one in the victims’ descriptions. In August, authorities said they began receiving reports of a man approaching women in Vista and Oceanside and touching them in an inappropriate manner. In addition, several reports stated that women were lured to a vehicle by a man asking for directions only to find he was actually masturbating.
An Oct. 30 preliminary hearing has been set for Lablance, who has no prior criminal record, according to prosecutors. If convicted of all charges, he faces six to eight years in prison.
Following the arraignment, Deputy District Attorney Jodi Breton said there are currently eight victims, but she believed there may be more. She said the charges against Lablance stem from incidents from August to October and involve females ranging in ages from 15 to 52.
“They were all women who happened to be out and about during the daytime,” Breton said.
