DEL MAR — The logo for the 2016 San Diego County Fair was revealed at the Oct. 13 meeting of the 22nd District Agricultural Association board of directors.
It features elements from Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking Glass,” steampunk, cosplay and makers, the four genres that were combined to create next year’s theme, “Mad About the Fair.”
Design elements include the Mad Hatter’s hat from the classic children’s novel and machinery from steampunk, which incorporates technology and aesthetic designs inspired by industrial steam-powered equipment.
Board President Fred Schenk said in past years the logo went through a few modifications before it was revealed to the public. But this year there were no recommendations for improvements, he said.
The 2016 fair is expected to be “a weird, whacky and whimsical experience that will appeal to multiple generations,” but especially millennials and the Gen Zers, exhibits director Katie Mueller said.
The fair will open at 4 p.m. June 3 and run through July 4 but be closed the first three Mondays and first two Tuesdays.
