CARLSBAD — Supporters can register now for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s Pacific South Coast Chapter 2011 Walk MS fundraising walk. The event is set for 8 a.m. May 1 at the Legoland California theme park, off Armada Drive. The 2-mile fun walk will have check-in beginning at 7 a.m. There is no cost to be a walker. Registration information is available at MSwalk.com.
National MS Society officials are hoping to raise money for MS research and services and programs for people with MS, a chronic, unpredictable and disabling neurological disease of the central nervous system with no known cause, cure or prevention. Legoland will be closed to the general public during Walk MS, but will open at its regularly scheduled time of 10 a.m. At the conclusion of the fundraiser, all walkers will be invited to re-enter the theme park at a discounted admission price.
Walkers will have the opportunity to earn prizes, including T-shirts, movie tickets and gift cards, based on the amount of donations they collect. In addition to live entertainment, a variety of refreshments will keep energy levels high at the fundraiser. Walkers will be invited to sample muffins from Souplantation, coffee from Don Francisco’s Gourmet Coffee, pizza from Papa John’s, juices from Langers Juice Co., Pepsi and other treats.
Many teams come up with a team name and outfit their members with costumes, including T-shirts, hats or balloons. All it takes is four or more people to form a team. Free snacks and beverages will be provided to walkers, plus live music and a festive finish-line celebration. At last year’s Walk MS event at Legoland, 2,903 walkers raised $216,733 in donations.
