VISTA — After the Angles Crest 100-mile marathon was canceled in September due to fires in the Los Angeles area, local physician Dr. Brian Luschwitz created his own race. With the help of friends, he will run 100 continuous miles around Escondido’s Lake Hodges on Nov. 7 and Nov. 8.
The marathon run will last between 27 to 33 hours. This is the fifth year Luschwitz has ran 100 miles to raise money for Vista Community Clinic. Luschwitz is a board certified pediatrician at Vista Community Clinic’s new facility on Grapevine Road.
“I believe so strongly in the great work that Vista Community Clinic does,” Luschwitz said. “This year, more kids than ever have lost their health insurance. I refuse to allow the cancellation of the official Angles Crest 100 run to cancel this year’s fundraising efforts.”
Luschwitz’s run will raise money for the Kare for Kids Fund at the clinic. Each year the clinic provides medical care for about 11,000 children without health insurance. These children come from working poor families who earn too much to qualify for public assistance but too little to afford the costs of private insurance. Donations from Luschwitz’s marathon will help the clinic keep its promise to “never turn away a sick child.”
