DEL MAR — Surfrider Foundation San Diego Chapter has named the date, and tickets are now available, for its 11th annual fundraising Art Gala. The event will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. May 19 at The Powerhouse Community Center in Del Mar, 1658 Coast Blvd.
Tickets for the gala are on sale at www.surfridersd.org/artgala_2011.php and include a grazing dinner, complimentary drinks, entertainment and access to bid on and own works of art. Tickets are limited to the first 150 people who purchase them.
Any organization interested in donating sponsorships, food, drink or auction items for the event, should e-mail artgala@surfriderSD.org. The environmentally inspired event will offer silent and live auctions of ocean-themed artwork from local and national artists, in addition to one-of-a-kind surfboards. Recent featured artists include Andy Davis, Jason Samarin, Wade Koniakowsky, Jeff Yeomans, Neil Bociek, Jay Alders, Josh Agle (Shag), Stephen King, Donald Miralle, Skye Walker, Seth Thompson, Kevin Roche, Susan Wickstrand-Roche, Myles McGuiness, Robb Havassy and more.
Proceeds from the art gala’s ticket sales and auctions benefit the Surfrider Foundation San Diego Chapter, helping fund the group’s local programs including water quality testing, education, outreach, beach cleanups, pollution monitoring and advocacy efforts. Last year’s event aided the chapter’s Kids For Clean Water educational outreach program, Blue Water Task Force water monitoring, Ocean Friendly Gardens and Know your H2O programs and the Rise Above Plastics campaign.
