Library hosts holiday food drive

SAN MARCOS — The San Marcos Library, at 2 Civic Center Drive, is encouraging the community to give this holiday season by serving as a collection site for the North County’s Food Bank. The food drive is taking place now through Jan. 31, with nonperishable food items being accepted during library business hours.
The following items are most needed this year: canned meat and tuna, tomato products, canned soups, canned meals (chili, stew, etc.), canned fruits and vegetables, dry cereal, peanut butter, pasta, and rice. The library will only accept nonperishable items that have ingredient labels.
Due to safety regulations, the library cannot accept homemade canned or baked products, cans that are leaking or bulging, glass containers, or baby food in glass jars.
“We hope the community will come together and donate to this important cause,” Branch Manager Angelica Fortin said. “The holiday season is a time of giving and compassion, and we’re proud to be doing our part at the library.”
