Leucadia boutique teams with nonprofit to send “luv” to Haiti

ENCINITAS — Local boutique It’s a Luv Thing has launched a line of specialty T-shirts to raise money for children affected by the disaster in Haiti.
The T-shirts feature the boutique’s signature heart logo and are available for women, men and children. Proceeds of the $22 shirt will go toward making care packages and funding a new orphanage in Haiti.
Store owner Kamie Archinal opened her store four years ago with the intention of taking on projects for children’s charities.
“Raising money was part of my healing process after going through a rough three-year cancer treatment with my own child. My heart was raw with emotion and the need to help others was in the forefront of my daily thoughts,” she said.
After seeing images of Haitian children abandoned, hurt and alone, Archinal wanted her community to help.
The T-shirt project will benefit the nonprofit organization Kids for Peace, which encourages children to foster peace through cross-cultural experiences and hands-on art and service projects. The group has over 50 chapters worldwide.
Children will make care packages, personalized with specially need items in response to the earthquake, which will be hand-delivered by volunteers in Haiti.
