Celebrate Women’s Equality Day
Women all across the country will celebrate Women’s Equality Day on Aug. 26, the 89th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution which gave women the right to vote. Once the vote was won, suffragists worked to encourage citizen participation in government and to hold public dialogue on policy issues. The League of Women Voters, founded in 1919, proudly carries on that work today. By fostering citizen participation in government at all levels through education and advocacy, the league is “the place to go” to receive unbiased information on issues and to join with other committed citizens in efforts to make our government more open, more accountable, and more responsive.
We urge you to join the League and carry forward the suffragist legacy.
