CARLSBAD — Hundreds of little ones braved the chilly air to watch the fireworks and festivities as a 30-foot-tall tree made of Legos was illuminated during the annual Legoland Christmas tree lighting ceremony Dec. 1.
Drew Seeley from “High School Musical: The Concert” and Michael Johns, a finalist in last season’s “American Idol,” both performed Christmas songs for the families gathered together to celebrate the season.
Proceeds from his new Christmas song, “Another Christmas,” will benefit the Red Cross and ALS Association, Johns said.
“I am a big believer in the Red Cross,” Johns said, and added that his support of the ALS Association is in honor of the late mother of television host Nancy O’Dell, from Access Hollywood.
Johns said he has a single coming out in January with an album coming out in the spring.
Seeley said he just finished a movie directed by Adam Sandler called “The Short Cut.”
Both performers signed autographs after the ceremony.
The day was dedicated to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.
Several foster families from the Los Angeles area were guests for the day at the park, and officials from Legoland California presented a $10,000 check to Wendy’s Wonderful Kids, a national program directed by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, during the evening ceremony.
Resources go directly into the foster care adoption recruitment efforts, officials said, to help the more than 500,000 children in the foster system in the United States.
