CARLSBAD — Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation will host the fourth annual Kayak Cleanup with the first launch at 7:30 a.m. and the last launch at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 26 and Sept. 27.
This event allows kayakers access to the lagoon that is normally closed to human contact of any kind, including boating. It simultaneously aids in preserving the lagoon habitat by removing shoreline trash. People may bring their own kayaks or use kayaks and safety equipment provided by REI and Hobie, the event sponsors.
Each group will be accompanied by guides who will take parties to areas of interest and also provide help if needed. The cost is $30 per person and is a tax-deductible donation to BLF. A Mirage Adventure kayak has been donated by Hobie and will be raffled off as part of the Kayak Cleanup fundraising effort. Proceeds of the Kayak Cleanup will benefit BLF’s ongoing habitat restoration projects.
For more information, and to register online, visit www.batiquitosfoundation.org or visit the lagoon’s Nature Center at 7380 Gabbiano Lane, open 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Unreserved slots will be filled on the days of the event on a first-come-first-served basis, upon completion of the registration form and payment.
Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit corporation that formed in 1983 with the mission to preserve, protect and enhance the Batiquitos Lagoon Ecological Reserve.
