CARLSBAD — At 11:33 a.m. May 5, Carlsbad police responded to a report of a purse snatch at the La Costa Grill, located at 6996 El Camino Real. Suspect Carlton Bowley entered the enclosed patio area, engaged patrons in conversation and then grabbed a woman’s purse, which was hanging on her chair. Bowley fled the area with the purse but was chased down and apprehended by the victim’s companion and several bystanders.
While investigating the incident, Carlsbad officers received a call from another victim advising that at approximately 11:15 a.m. an individual had attempted to steal her purse from the parking lot of 6941 El Camino Real. Subsequent investigation identified Bowley as the suspect in that incident as well.
Bowley was taken into custody, transported and booked into the Vista Detention Facility.
