OCEANSIDE — MiraCosta College officials celebrated the recent decision as Superior Court Judge Thomas Nugent ruled that the college’s board of trustees acted within the law in its settlement with former Superintendent and President Victoria Muñoz Richart.
The ruling came as a result of a lawsuit filed by a Carlsbad resident asserting the board acted improperly in awarding damages as part of the settlement. The ruling clearly supports the board’s right to determine the terms of the settlement agreement and that the board acted in the best interest of the college.
“I believe the entire college community is ready to put this issue behind us and move forward,” Interim Superintendent/ President Susan Cota said. “We have challenges before us that need our full and immediate attention including naming a new president and addressing the recommendations of the accrediting commission. We are making good progress on both fronts and with this issue resolved we can focus on these two important tasks as well as our primary mission: providing excellent instruction and services for our students.”
