Information for veterans at senior center

CARLSBAD — The Carlsbad Senior Center welcomes Jim Cejka, a Veterans Service Advocate with the Veterans Administration and the California Department of Veterans Affairs from 10 to 11:30 a.m. April 23 at 799 Pine Ave.Cejka will discuss how to navigate through the numerous benefit programs available to WWII, Korea and Vietnam veterans. Discussion topics will include:

— Common myths, misconceptions and misinformation about the VA

— What VA benefits am I, or my family, eligible to receive?

— Where can I get free assistance when applying for VA benefits?

— What if I don’t agree with a decision on my VA claim?

— Are VA benefits taxable?

— How do I get evaluated for nursing home care?

A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation and Cejka will be available for free one-on-one benefits assistance the last Tuesday of each month. Drop-ins are welcome from 9 to 11 a.m. and one-hour appointments are available by reservation.
