SAN DIEGO — MLB.com reports that Trevor Hoffman has announced his retirement.
Hoffman, baseball’s all-time saves leader, made the announcement at Petco Park on Jan. 12.
The 43-year-old’s career included 601 regular-season saves.
Hoffman will be stepping into a front-office role with the San Diego Padres.
“I look forward to putting on a different hat and helping the organization in a different way,” Hoffman said.
Although looking forward to his new role, Hoffman admitted he would miss the competition and camaraderie that comes with being a player.
