SAN MARCOS — The city of San Marcos Community Services will present the 18th annual San Marcos Trails Day on Nov. 7. This free hiking and equestrian event will begin at 9 a.m., and participants may register at 8:30 a.m. Horse owners can trailer their horses and saddle up for the ride.
San Marcos Trails Day is held each year to promote the extensive trail system in the city and to encourage membership in the Friends of San Marcos Parks and Trails. Participants will choose from 3, 5.5 or 7 mile hikes with special access to South Lake trails not usually open to the public. The equestrian course takes riders through 5.5 miles of scenic trails. Community Services staff and volunteers will assist with registration, Friends of San Marcos Parks and Trails membership drive and refreshment/aid stations. Partnerships for San Marcos Trails Day are still available.
Hikers and equestrians will meet at the south end of Santa Barbara Street in San Marcos. From Highway 78, take Twin Oaks Valley Road south, turn right on Craven Road, then left on Santa Barbara Street. For more information, visit www.san-marcos.net or contact Ron Vinluan at (760)744-9000, ext. 3535.
