SAN MARCOS — The city of San Marcos Community Services Department will sponsor a Discover San Marcos Hike to Del Dios Highlands County Preserve on Dec. 6. The hike will begin at 9 a.m., and participants can start signing in at 8:30 a.m.
This will be a difficult, 3-mile hike that will explore the connecting trail between Del Dios and Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve. There will an elevation change of 900 feet and the trail is steep. All hikers should wear hiking shoes and bring water and trail snacks. All minors must be accompanied by an adult. Dogs must be on a maximum 6-foot leash at all times.
Hikers should meet at the staging area on the north side of Lake Hodges at 9860 Del Dios Highway, across from Date Lane. There are no restrooms at the staging area.
